Albino Pereira, or “P” as the players like to call him, has been a Phys. Ed. teacher at Eden High School for the past 22 years. He has been the Junior and Senior boys volleyball coach every year and has won Eden a multitude of SOSSA golds, 1 OFSAA single A silver, 1 OFSAA double A bronze and for the past 4 years has won OFSAA Double A gold! But those are just the stats, impressive stats to say the least, but it doesn’t give Mr. P the recognition he deserves for everything he has done for Eden, for the St. Catharines volleyball community and most of all for us players. In the field of volleyball he took Eden from a no name private Christian High School to a well feared and respected Christian/Public High School with the record of most consecutive OFSAA championships. He’s had opportunities to leave Eden and coach elsewhere but has stayed loyal and says there’s something special about Eden. “I likes the student’s morale, the school’s Christian aspect and the commitment I have from the players each and every year.” He’s brought school spirit and pride to everyone at Eden and has also coached other sports teams to victory. Not only has he touched the lives of the Eden students, Mr. P has also influenced a tremendous number of youth who have had the opportunity to excel in a sport they love and contribute to a healthy lifestyle. He’s coached OVA volleyball teams and organized multiple community volleyball camps for the past 4 years and doing all this in his spare time (i.e. summer, Christmas/March Break, etc.). But what Mr. P has really been doing is embedding significant and life long character traits in all the players he’s coached. He impresses on the players that although learning the sport and improving skills are important, the greater benefits of being involved is building positive character and being exposed to important life experiences. He has helped us grow in the areas of discipline, work ethic, commitment, responsibility, and integrity. He has taught many players to accept defeat with grace and success with humility; to turn frustration into goal setting and egocentric selfish attitudes to team building and cooperation. To him “the hardest part of coaching is not winning gold medals, but getting the players to work together and become a family.” For the first 12 weeks of every school year Mr. P is busy with the Senior boys volleyball team 6 days a week, whether it’s practice, a game or our 10 consecutive weekends of high caliber tournaments. Mr. P is also best known for his calm, quiet, humble demeanor and his exemplary sportsmanship, as anyone will tell you they’ve never heard him speak poorly about a soul. He never expects recognition or reward but takes pride in his team’s accomplishments, however his true reward is to see how many lives have grown and how many relationships have been built.

I have known Mr. P for 5 years and I have never seen anyone be more devoted to coaching than he is. He never yells at the kids, he treats them with respect and respect him back. He has lead the Eden Flyers to a 4 time win at OfSAA and that speaks for itself. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He deserves to win for sure!!!

Mr. P is SOOO awesome! He could both coach and play any sport that he wanted to!! my dad used to play baseball with him and always thought that the way he played(how smart and athletic he was) and his attitude in general were so great! He treats everyone with respect, and is someone who makes you try harder just because you want to please him. I had him for fitness class this year. He was a great teacher. "P" never gets mad at people, he always stays calm and is sometimes really funny. he is a great guy, and he deserves to win MVC!

Mr. P is an amazing coach. Not only has he coach the senior boys team to 4 consectutive OFSAA championships, but he has coach the girls team for many years, and is head of the schools Athletics Department. He always has a positive attitude. Unlike most other competitive coaches, i have NEVER seen Mr. P yell at or critisize one of his players. For him it really is more about creating a good TEAM, then actually winning. He gives up all his weekends during the season to take us to tournaments, and when he is not coach us he is busy coaching his sons volleyball team. He is not only a leader in our schools volleyball program, but the whole regions because he is a very important leader in the Niagara Rapids Volleyball Club as well. Mr. P truely does have a passion for this sport, and is always concerned about his players and only wants the best for them. Albino Pereira really is an amazing coach.

Mr. P is da BOMB!! I had him 3 out of the 4 years of my highschool career for gym, and they were always the best classes! Whenever I got my schedule for the upcoming year and saw that i had "P" for gym, i knew it was going to be an awesome class. With his positive attitude towards everything, he made each class more fun and exciting. He could even make running the beep test sound fun! :P He'd often play with the class, and school everyone in pretty much ANY sport! Mr. P is the MAN! End of story!
